Woke Scottish Govt to Replace Word ‘Addict’ with ‘Person with Problematic Substance Use’

Drug abusers are to be treated like they have “a health problem” rather than a propensity to indulge in self-destructive and sometimes criminal behaviour in Scotland, with terms like “alcoholic” and “addict” scrapped in favour of woke alternatives.

The Scottish Government, roughly equivalent to a U.S. state government, wants alcoholism and drug abuse to be treated as a health condition in the belief that this might do something about Scotland’s problem with drugs deaths, in particular, with fatalities up 5 per cent in 2020 to 1,339 — the highest annual death toll yet recorded.
