The Cure For Cancer
In/around 1999 my dad participated in the FDA Phase 3 trials for a drug called Aptosyn made by a small company called Cell Pathways. The drug was in trials to treat cancer patients with FAP. The guy who started the company had the condition (its genetic).
Long story short, the drug worked. Not only was Aptosyn clinically effective, the company had patented every possible molecular configuration on a certain enzyme that could fit into a certain receptor they had identified as critical in the apoptosis process in cancerous cells. They had other enzymes that were 1000 times more effective in phase 1 studies.
After the FDA denied approval (after years of heavily financed research), big Pharma swooped in and bought the company, the line of patents, and this technology was never heard from again.
