Plastics shortage

I have a friend who works in the plastics industry. She told me about something she’d heard about but was given little to no media attention. Though this particular situation happened in June, I do remember hearing about a carrier that sank in Sri Lanka. What I remember was that it was a chemical/oil spill. What I didn’t realize was that there were also several metric tons of HDPE plastic “pellets” aboard as well. The type that are used in the food industry for a myriad of products. Once it went in the water it became contaminated. That plastic is also used in, you guessed it, computer chips. Now that’s thinking outside the box. Good job tying this to the shortage.

It all ties in. It’s a cascading domino effect. Considering the quantity of everyday items that have plastic in them…it’s setting us up for a world of hurt.
