The Price of Eggs and Mexicans….

Hey there Taverneers! Sometimes when I get off message in a conversation, someone will inevitably say, “What’s that got to do with the price of eggs in China?” I have no idea how much eggs cost in China, and I think it an irrelevant come back. But that’s not my point. However the price of eggs are. I won’t go into the fact that eggs are high in price; to quote the venerable John Cleese, “Thank you for pointing out the bleeding obvious.” The main reason given for “the bleeding obvious” is the loss of chickens due to the Bird Flu or the Avian Flu. That’s always the excuse given. But hearing from farmers, I’m going to call BS. Why do I say this? While the price of eggs is climbing, the price of chicken meat has not risen proportionally. So if chickens are dying from the Bird Flu or having to be destroyed because of infection, are the only chickens dying the egg laying chickens and not the meat chickens? Does this flu discriminate between the two? Farmers who have free ranging chickens are not reporting higher incidences of Bird Flu. Do fresh air and sunlight make for healthier chickens as opposed to these giant chicken houses where zillions of chickens are crammed into cages in very close proximity to one another and never see the sun or breathe fresh air. If Bird Flu is the issue, it makes sense that it would be more rampant in houses where there’s thousands of chickens with little to no space between them. Another thing to consider is perhaps Bird Flu is the fowl equivalent of Covid, and we’re just being lied to by greedy price gougers, who have the wherewithal to buy eggs pro bono. Chicken farmers feel that rising egg prices without corresponding chicken meat prices, are caused by middleman and retail seller price gouging, and their (the farmers) opinions should count for something. So where do the Mexicans come into it? Well, in my neck of the woods we have a lot Baptists, and after the Holy Trinity, their next biggest passion is fried chicken. OK, I’m embellishing for my point’s sake, but we do have lots of chicken houses in my area, so consequently we have a fair number of chicken processing plants, where chickens are slaughtered, plucked, gutted, chopped into pieces and packaged for sale by retailers, restaurants, etc., by large numbers of workers. The majority of workers in these processing plants are almost all Mexicans…or, so I don’t appear xenophobic or racist, people who originally come from countries like Mexico, Central America, or South America, however, most of them in our area are Mexicans. There haven’t been huge layoffs of Latino workers, which wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect if there was a huge shortfall of chickens. So I’m inclined to agree with the farmers, the victims aren’t the chickens; it’s us! Only laying hens seem to be dying of the Bird Flu, and not meat chickens, which is pretty weird. Mexican chicken processors are still working and haven’t been laid off due to raw materials. Don’t know about you, but I’m smelling a rat. Price gouging seems to be killing off our grocery budgets, as opposed to diseased chickens. So what do we do? Back to “the bleeding obvious,” but the supposed answer to this problem would be to stop buying eggs at the store, or, just stop eating eggs. Easier said than done, right? But we could start seeking out and developing relationships with local farmers, especially those who raise chickens and sell eggs. We can shop at local mom ‘n pop produce and meat markets, who often sell eggs. Or we could start raising our own chickens and getting our own eggs, but that’s not feasible for lots of folks. What do y’all think? “Boot heels to be wandering” time, See y’all/ love y’all.

Nice to see a bit of good logic. My sentiments with the bird flu just being another scam. I don’t see any ducks or geese dead. The bastards could manufacture some fake pictures. I ain’t got no dead birds out in my fields.

In Ireland still can get eggs at €2 a half dozen but poultry is going up in price. We haven’t been culling for “bird flu” though.

I am going to buy a 7 egg incubator and hatch chickens in my frint window for the neighbourhood kids. They have been begging me to do this since September. One of their parents has agreed to take 2 layers. If they all hatch…🤷‍♀️ my garden is too small for a coop.

Here’s a photo of my farm, fresh egg, and my store-bought “organic” egg

Since the Mrs is on the HOA board with my neighbor its become an ongoing joke my request for Companion Chicks. It’s not like I’m asking for ostrich’s or Emu’s and state & federal law allows small birds. I have a guy that could give me a prescription but I’m losing interest sometimes I cry and I cry. Kidding I’ll get better at fishing, clamming & crabbing.

I will be going back at the authorities over the PCR test & RTPCR used to find bird flu. Just looked thru emails to find my email giving them notice of the PCR FRAUD and will be resending with follow up phone calls. Your right meat barely moved up but it’s early and it went up slightly. I believe it’s going up soon. Trump had frozen Bird Flu outbreak data. They’re waiting to pull the trigger for shock and awe. CDC recommends hospitals test for H1N1 as of weeks ago. Like pool balls it’s being racked up. HHS jobs were all protected in case of a Bird Flu Emergency. It always feels like you’re alone when you stand up against fraud and tyranny.

I agree chicken meat will be going up soon, but not because of Economics 101, Supply and Demand, but the egg price gougers finally said, “Duh, we’ve got them buying eggs at $7.99 a dozen, I’ll bet we can raise the price of chicken, and they’ll pay that too.” Where’s Elon and DOGE when it comes to waste, fraud, and corruption in the food industry? I can just see him and his army descending on “Big Chicken” in a convoy of Tesla tractors. I wonder when either he or Trump went to the grocery store and bought eggs? Rhetorical question. I’m sure some serf does their shopping for them, and they both could buy an entire chicken farm with the money they carry in their pockets.

I’m not familiar with the RTPCR test, but if it’s as efficacious at detecting Bird Flu as the PCR test was at detecting Covid…then we’re screwed again! Hey, maybe they could make little tiny M95 masks for chickens. Perhaps that would help. Draw little chicken footprints, so the chickens would know to stand 6 feet apart.

And if (as they say) there’s a danger Avian Flu can spread to humans, why aren’t they coming up with Draconian health mandates for us? Just about everybody eats chicken in one form or another. Don’t a significant number of people break an egg in their beer? I know, to me that’s a revolting practice, but I’ve seen people do it in bars, and I shouldn’t knock it until I’ve tried it, but I think I’ll stick to scrambled, with a beer on the side. And I’m no Mixologist, but I know some cocktails use egg whites. What about restaurants and diners that serve lemon meringue pie? Isn’t meringue made from egg whites? Could it be that the price gougers couldn’t really give a crap about our safety, and just want our money? Or, could it be that it’s just all a big truckload of chicken crap, and it’s only lining some S.O.B.’s pocket? Where’s RFK Jr. when you need him? At least maybe he won’t allow mRNA vaccines for chickens. And while we’re at it, when I used to get Flu shots, they always asked me if I was allergic to chickens? If they come up with Flu shot for chickens, are they going to ask them if they are allergic to humans…?

My experience and I stand by it but it’s just that . I let mine free roam 4 out of 7 days . Fresh water every morning, some oats and protein food and they do fine . I know when the hawks and fox come around 3 years into this and have not had a problem with “ Bird FLU”…… My opinion that’s an old wives tale disguised as neglect

I’m with you about 99%. I would say “purposeful neglect.”

Spot on @Drew they were using PCR & RT-PCR since 2002 for detection. Bird flu was roll model for CV19 and FraudPCR. This is a rerun of 1958 pandemic know one knew happened.
