Well! I bet that got your attention! First off, Taverneers, no, I haven’t become a Nazi; it was a shameless attention getter only, although time will tell in this discussion how relevant it might yet become, so please follow along. Yesterday I called the Paine 800 number and left a message which I found troubling. So, if Mike chooses to include it, then you might be hearing it sometime in the near future. But I thought I’d give you, my tried and true fellow Taverneers, a preview of coming attractions. This from a County Government employee. A meeting was called, and County Government personnel were told that it was not permissible for them to post anything of a political nature on social media, and that included their work and their home or personal computer posting. Failure to comply would mean their job. Now I don’t have much more information about that meeting, but I heard another very similar scenario from a State Government employee as well. I can only assume from this, that fear of reprisals from the Federal Government are the reason. By reprisals I mean economic ones. Once again, I assume it is true, as I’ve heard this from two different employees from both County and State Governmental agencies, which, to me, has more credibility than if I had heard it from Billy Bob on the internet. Does anybody else out there have any 1st Amendment alarms going off? Most “Conservatives” (whatever that means today) are reveling in orgiastic glee, and believe to their very core, that the current administration can do no wrong, and, there’s an avalanche of “Trump’s doing this,” and “Trump’s doing that” sound bites to overwhelm the senses. So much so, that stories like the one I’ve presented above, either doesn’t get, or at best, is only minimally reported. The Trump first hundred days blitz is like the magician with the pretty young assistant in a bathing suit; it dazzles and overwhelms, while the real trick goes unnoticed. There’s a smell of fear in the air. The threat of oppressive financial ruin has just supplanted free speech. Criticize your government, and your life gets irreparably screwed…which leads to crippling stress, which leads to mental and physical health problems, which if untreated leads to death. I’ve said it before, we learned our lessons well from the thousands of Nazis we patriated into our government at the end of WWII. We learned that holocaust style final solutions are messy, and consequently draw too much messy attention. Rather than starve or gas people to death, just cause them to live in constant fear (which smacks of, dare I say it, “terrorism”?) or, if they really get out of line, ruin them financially, and let nature take its course. No emaciated wraiths in striped pajamas peering through barbed wire fences, again, too messy. Living in rags and begging on the freeway is a much more Pilate washing his hands kind of look. Covid was an act of terrorism. Terrifying people of economic retaliation for exercising their Constitutional rights is another. Imagine what transitioning to an all digital currency will be like, and “they” have control over all our money. I’m NOT saying what we’re seeing is the “Mark of the Beast,” (Revelation 13), but it’ll do until the “Mark of the Beast” gets here…. What say ye? Time for my boot heels to be wandering. Keep your powder dry, and your ears to the ground.

Now to your other point, I have not heard of any local government censorship. I have heard of government agencies common sense advice to their employees to be wise on their government e-mail accounts.

I’m glad I have this space to come too. Just wish it was an actual, real, in person Green Dragon Tavern. I long for people to talk to, so I bake bread and croissants and lasagna for the local Farmer’s Market and there are many who think as we do. I live 18 miles from the largest Indian Rez in Northern California (Covelo,Ca.) and have been here 40 plus years. I raised my kids on my own (Dad passed when they were 21/2 and 4) We were extremely poor, as I was unwilling to take government assistance, so worked an average of 3 jobs in town . . Character is built on the anvil of adversity.. My daughter is a Family Physician( she was reading by age 2 1/2 .)My son has been successful in the weed business , even with a excellent set of morals. At any rate , I’m still here keeping the homestead going. I have a big vegetable garden at my son’s legal garden in town and I can sauces etc. I have been listening to Paine for 6 years , right from the beginning. (My favorite is German dance club). 😂
My biggest concern is what has happened in the medical system . My daughter has been vaxed 9 times so far for C19. She has suffered so much being a Dr. because she takes it seriously and actually cares about people. To no avail, because she works all the time. She is burnt. In Feb 2024 the insurance industry had a breach in the medical records and her PRIVATE clinic couldn’t pay the Drs. for 6 MONTHS ( because the insurance companies quit paying for procedures). The clinic only had enough to pay the front staff. I tell people about this and they cannot believe it . Don’t want to hear it. 😑 So she has quit her job and gave them a years notice. She will have to do locums – working on a day by day basis. At any rate this is the space to share this , because the Paine group is willing to keep their eyes open and see what is going on.❤️

I have no problem with government employees having to keep their political views off of their work social media pages. Government employees work for ALL people, not just those who align with their political views (on either side). I don’t see this as “censorship” – just common sense. I also believe it is an infringement of these same employees’ first amendment rights to have to keep their views off of their own personal social media pages for fear of reprisals from the federal government as long as these views don’t bleed into their work lives and are somehow detrimental to the other half of the citizenry they serve who don’t agree with them. Having said that, I am going to wait and see what this is all about before I jump to any conclusions. This is not a defense of Trump because I think he can do no wrong. I simply believe the adage, “No matter how flat the pancake, there are always two sides to the story.” First and foremost, Is this even true? I am going to wait to hear both sides of this before jumping on the CENSORSHIP!!!!!!! bandwagon. If this government is censoring people based on their beliefs, I’ll be the first to condemn it.
I do find it a little curious, though, that the alarm bells of government censorship are being raised now that Trump is POTUS. Until I find out if the above is true, where was the outcry when government censorship ACTUALLY happened under presidents not named Trump?

The censorship is happening under Democrat government entities, not Trump. But no matter which governments are telling people what they can and cannot say, and regardless of the reasons, the bottom line is that it’s contrary to the first amendment. Yes the Democrat led agencies are doing this out of fear of Trump, but to be clear, the censorship is coming from Democrats.

Thanks for the clarification, Dana! It does make me wonder what is being posted on the employees’ personal social media accounts that their bosses don’t want people to see. If it’s your standard, “We hate Trump, he is hitler, he’s a racist”, etc., no problem. I wonder if they’re posting about things they may be doing on the job that may be illegal. That would be a horse of a different color. I’ll remain neutral until more of the story unfolds!

Thanks for bringing this up , the self censorship started long time ago , all of this came in like a thief in the night it was always so convenient. I totally agree covid changed the world and unfortunately not for the better.God knows it changed my world significantly.

TOTALLY AGREE with that statement! That was the biggest disappointment for me during covid – that so many people went along with all the ridiculousness without ever questioning, “why” or pushing back. Many people in my orbit thought I was nuts, stupid or both because I refused to follow any of the inane “rules” mandated by our state. Hell, I even set an alarm so I could get up specifically to drive after midnight when our stupid governor imposed a curfew. Unfortunately, one person doing it did not make a bit of difference… We lament all the small businesses that were forced to close due to states’ overreach. Had all those same businesses stood together as one and said, “HELL NO, WE WON’T CLOSE”, could any state imposing mandates have been able to go after all of them? This may sound harsh but aren’t they partly to blame for their failure by not doing so? Hopefully, we ALL learned a valuable lesson: that the people will always have the power.

Strange yesterday an Horry County Fireman allegedly posted a racist video using the N word on the Fire Company FB page. Conway in Horry County borders the Big Carolina Forest Fire. Talk about sucking up all the oxygen. Seems like Municipalities are on schedule to follow military rules.
