Mas y Mas….
Hey Taverneers, The surgery is over. Trish came through OK, but there is an issue, I’ll spell out in just a minute. The bacteria has been cleaned out. There was a lot of infection under the skin, and, there was also a lot of infection between the skull and the brain. The inside of her skull (bone) was infected, so the side plate of her skull could not be replaced. So it’s just skin sutured over brain for a while. A plate of artificial bone will have to be made, and a third surgery will take place at a time yet to be determined–they don’t know when; therefore we don’t know when either. Now we learn about living life with only half a skull for awhile. I am grieved to my soul over the amount of suffering this brave, good (a lot better than me) lady has had to endure. It’s staggering. But on the positive side, the surgeon felt good about the surgery and that they had gotten everything infected that they could without damaging Trish’s brain. She is on broad spectrum antibiotics (shotgun approach) until the infected material is cultured, and the bacteria is identified, then a high powered antibiotic (rifle ball approach) will be used to target the infectious culprit. The surgeon said Trish will be on antibiotics a long time; not something I like, but are antibiotics as bad as a lethal brain infection? The devil you know, I guess. She will be on a ventilator for a day or so, as she is in a medically induced coma (to prevent movement) and will remain so until her doctors wean her off of it (the anesthesia) hopefully by tomorrow (the plan). God was with her, and your prayers have been heard, but Trish still has a long way to go, so please keep praying. We got to see her briefly back in the ICU. She probably didn’t know we were there, but that’s OK, it was just good to see her alive, and to know she’s been given another chance at survival and life. God is good. Love y’all for all your love, support and kindness. I’ll never be able to thank you enough. More as I get it.
