Halloween in Real Time….

No movie is as ever as scary as real life. On Thursday of last week, Trish was doing pretty good. In fact, a representative of the Rehab center to which Trish was to be transferred yesterday, had come to interview and assess her, and being quite pleased with her progress, offered her a place in the center. We were overjoyed. It’s a nice place, with a great physical, occupational, and speech therapy facilities. In fact I would even be able to bring our dogs to visit. Then Friday the bottom dropped out, and long story short, Trish was transferred back into the ICU. She is barely communicative most of the time. She has moments of clarity, but not for long. Another long story short, the hospital’s best and brightest have no clue as to why these events have turned in the direction they have. Remember, this is the same hospital that was doing their dead level best to throw her out last week. They feel the need to perform an MRI of Trish’s head, as subsequent CT scans of her head reveal nothing; no new bleeds, no stroke, no lesions…nothing of value in diagnosing the cause of this new development. She is too agitated and fidgety to get the MRI, so they tranquilize her, but in so doing, drop her blood pressure like dropping an anvil out of an airplane. 3 days, and multiple attempts later, still no MRI. All kinds of semi-logical to downright inane reasons have been given for Trish’s current condition. So far Covid has not been mentioned…thankfully for them. We’ve been living in the ICU, and are a little frayed around the edges, but still having to struggle to find reason and meaning in our endeavors to help Trish. The struggle is just as intense as it has ever been. I have finally seen the Kraken…for real. Sidney Powell doesn’t have a clue as to it’s real nature. It carries a stethoscope and logs billable hours. Happy Halloween y’all.

To do so right now would kill her. Scroll down; there’s a lot more story to tell.

Ok Dana…We are in this world, not of this world. Your words are so familiar to me. I’ll light a candle for ya, and pray you get some time to rest your mind, & body. I’m sure Trish would want that for you too. The bond you and Trish have for each other can’t be separated by the walls of that hospital. You know that…Meanwhile, all of us here have you, Trish, and all the team in that hospital covered by prayers. Love for you and Trish, and guidance for wisdom from unseen sources for the Drs & Nurses. You know Dana, sometimes shift change in a hospital brings with it a new path of options/results

A few minutes ago (noonish, our time) I noticed a pus-like substance oozing from Trish’s incision just behind the new staples, that were put in to re-close the wound when it burst open a couple of weeks ago because they took them out too soon. Her nurse just happened to see her two neurosurgeons passing by and grabbed them quick. They cleaned it up and have left to go talk to the trauma team. Trish’s nurse just now told me that they (that ubiquitous “they”) have just restricted her diet to no food by mouth. Something is up since the neurosurgeons were in.

Before this latest development, I was going to give an update. The MRI was done last night. The Neurology Radiologists do not work overnight (surprise surprise) so the MRI has not yet been read, so no one has the results–not even the ICU doctors. For now, they are keeping Trish in the ICU, as she is basically uncommunicative. Once in a while she has moments of limited clarity, but falls back asleep in a few minutes. The doctors are concerned about her heart condition as well, and are calling in the Heart Failure Department for a consult. Not sure what is going on exactly since most of what they say is over my pay grade, even when they try to explain things in layman’s terms. The MRI will “hopefully” be read soon and show something useful. Otherwise the official, bottom line report I was given by the doctors this morning was, and I quote, “Basically she is recovering from a bad brain bleed.” I would have never guessed. Masters of (no pun intended) the bleeding obvious.
