Did We Have A Debate…?
I’m sitting here by Trish’s bedside as the physical therapists are exercising her. I feel like I’ve been exiled to the moon, as I was thinking that outside of the podcast, I haven’t heard any “news” in over a month. I heard someone mention that the Republicrats had a presidential candidate’s debate last night. Really? Did anybody win? I don’t even know who participated; and that’s not a complaint, just an observation. I don’t guess it really matters in the end run, because there are no more statesmen, just politicians, who “…Talk talk talk talk talk, and they don’t say nuthin’.” (T-Bone Burnett). The days of someone caring about the country and its people more than their stock portfolio are gone. Having been to Southern Mexico quite a few times, I’ve been blessed to have been able to visit quite a number of ancient Meso-American archaeological sites—Zapotec, Mixtec, Maya; many quite spectacular. Like now, the peasants did all the work building and supplying the elite ruling class (often to their own peril), and the elite enjoyed the best of everything. The difference between then and now is that eventually the peasants got sick of living like dogs (and being sacrificed by having their hearts cut out [while alive] with a stone knife, while the elite, who demanded everything from them, lived the good life, and so…said peasants simply moved away. They just up and left; went somewhere else. In time the food ran out “up on the hill” and the ruling elites had to learn the hard way, that the good times were over. This happened over and over again, and is an extremely plausible historical explanation for the collapse of these once great civilizations. The Spanish didn’t conquer as much as we have been led to believe. The peasants just quit paying the freight of their rulers, and it was all abandoned. I wonder, is there a lesson in this for us? I mean we are paying dearly for our misery and exploitation….
