Half of the hospitals were named Baptist Hospital, or Presbyterian Hospital, or Methodist Hospital, Episcopal Hospital etc. Major Christian denominations actually built and supported hospitals. The Catholic hospitals most often took care of the indigent. BUT, in the late 70’s or early 80’s, they mostly sold out to for-profit corporations. Medicine was then administrated by people with MBA’s instead of doctors. Treatment of the sick stopped being about caring for people, and was based on corporate bottom line.
