Hey folks. I hope this finds you well and surviving, whether you are ill or helping someone who is. Recent bloodwork saw a spike in my PSA go from 4.6 up to 7.98 (with no apparent cause in view). A subsequent MRI showed a lesion that was potentially cancerous. So Friday I’m scheduled to have a targeted biopsy of the affected area. Will keep you posted with outcomes and where we go from here.

Tests are an interesting device. Many were educated on how the medical establishment utilizes tests. How do you feel Dana?

Thanks for the info. As to how I feel, not much different than before. For a 70 something fellow, I get around OK and feel pretty good. As to the cancer, at this point, I’m asymptomatic.

Hey Dana – Thank you for the update. Based on my ~ 30 yrs in prostate cancer and research you are taking a sound approach. The new developments from Seyfried an others open up new opportunities for intervention and management of cancers especially if detected early. Holding you in my heart and sending positive vibes your way.

How Big Medicine hijacked the PSA test and caused a public health disaster.

ZACTLY!!! PSA = Pretty Silly Assessment OR Pretty Stupid Assessment….I’m sure there are others. The AMIC (Allopathic Medical Industrial Complex) has all men over 50 on their fear bus. Question is, … is it a “short bus” as @mike talks about.

I’d have to say yes. When I was first diagnosed, there was a big rush to take care of it right away, like it was life and death. So I was sold a bill of goods on Cryotherapy. Sure enough, it worked…for a little over a year, then the cancer returned. A new oncologist (my former one had left town) did another MRI and a biopsy, and determined that any worrisome spots weren’t really worth worrying about. I’ve had 4 oncologists/urologists in the last 3 years. I opted to get in with an advanced cancer oncologist/urologist in a town about two hours away. My first visit was 6 months ago, and PSA’s were within normal range. And, he told me that the Cryotherapy performed on me was, at best, unnecessary, and at worst, fraudulent. So we agreed to kick the can down the road for another 6 months and see what transpires. When I went for this half year’s checkup, my PSA had gone over the 6.5 mark, and the MRI showed a concerning spot, so here we go.

Hey Dana – It sounds like you and your doctor have charted a good course. I had the honor of doing my post doctoral fellowship, and getting faculty position, with folks whose lives were dedicated to clinical and basic urologic research. Thank you for keep un posted and let me know if I can ever be assistance. Best- Carrie-in-Chicago

Thank you all for the prayers, kind wishes and information. It means more than you know. When my prostate cancer was first diagnosed in 2019, my PSA was 4.01, and the upper threshold was 4.0. Then they raised the upper threshold to 4.5. Now they’ve raised it to 6.5. I can’t help but believe that there were so many prostate cancers being diagnosed from PSA’s > 4.0, that the insurance companies balked and forced “Big Medicine” to raise the upper threshold now to 6.5. This “thinning of the herd” so to speak, would be a huge boon to the insurance carriers. It also, I believe, says how they really view the tests and their results.

Note: I’ve had two friends, both of whom, after a prostate cancer diagnosis, had a radical prostatectomy performed on them. One had the cancer return after several years, the other had the cancer return in less than a year. Both have undergone radiation treatment 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Both had minus PSA’s after their surgeries.

I’ve heard good things about patients using RSO Rick Simpson Oil with treatments. Some swear by it others frown on it. Also I’ve heard one should keep their body as alkaline as possible because cancer grows in an acidic environment and can be killed in an alkaline environment. I’m no doctor though, just speculating on things I’ve read about.
