Iodine….

  • Iodine….

One thing I’ve been shown is that people with my kind of cancer are low in iodine. From what I’ve read, most people are lower in iodine than people were 60 years ago. Those of us old enough remember our moms and grandmas having those round cardboard “cans” of Iodized Salt. So we got plenty of iodine cooked into our food or sprinkled on top of it. As the medical world convinced us that salt was bad for us, and trendier more designer salts, sea salt, pink salt, grey salt took the place of the old iodized salt, and now we’re all iodine deficient. A video Mr. Cagney sent to me, had a fellow who had survived prostate for like 16 years with no medical treatment. He was the first person I heard talk about iodine deficiency and its role in cancer. He recommended putting a couple of drops of Lugol’s iodine of water and drinking it daily. I know some people are taking more than that. Does anyone know any iodine regimens, like how much should you take, or how much you should not take? Can you take too much?

I have never stopped using iodized salt, but I am likely still low in iodine, although not tested. I do use Himalayan salt in water for the minerals.

I’m still low on Iodine. In Canada we don’t have access to the Iodine loading test, developed by Drs. Abraham and Brownstein around 2000.

I highly recommend Dr. Brownstein’s book. “Why you need it/ Why you can’t live without it” 5th edition. I would consider it the “Bible” on Iodine.

Just ordered another bottle of J. Crow 5% Lugol’s Iodine. That’s the only Iodine recommended for people with thyroid issues.

I started low and slow around the first of July 2023. Started @ 12.5 mg per day and worked up to 37.5 mg, then backed down to 25 mg per day. Then I re-read the book again and he would start his patients at 50 mg after the Iodine loading test.

I suppose I should check with my doctor and see what I can do in the way of testing. It is essential, and if I can head off any issues, I’m all for that.

I bumped my Iodine up to 50 mg a day. Dr. Brownstein mentions keeping new people on 50 mg per day, some for 4 to 6 months before their Iodine levels get to the level where their 24 hours loading test (through their urine) expels less that 10 % Iodine. I think it’s hard to get Iodine toxicity (book says 5%) as the access gets expelled through the urine. The human body can apparently hold over 1,000 mg of Iodine (going from memory) when everything is working right (glands and cells have been properly detoxed from the toxins bromide, fluoride, chloride, heavy medals) and able to except Iodine. Dr. Brownstein claims every gland/cell in the body needs Iodine.

If we’re dealing with other issues like cancer or thyroid problems, we probably need more Iodine than people without these issues.

I’m winging it as they say up in Canada. I keep the book handy.

So I would need to do a heavy metal detox first?

I didn’t do one. But then I started taking Iodine before doing a 2 week without salt detox. Salt helps to detox glands and cells from heavy metals. That’s probably not uncommon when you don’t have a medical professional who really understands and has the experience with getting peoples Iodine deficiencies rectified.

BTW, Dr. Brownstein came from a family were they all had thyroid issues, including himself. So he’s living the phrase “physician, heal thyself.”

Wonder why Peter Starr said to drink a couple of drops of Lugol’s iodine in water each day. At 2% each drop only contains 1000 mcg per drop. That dose is quite low. 3 drops = only 3 mg?

Dana, when using 2% Lugol’s Iodine, each drop equals 2 mg.

When using 5% Lugol’s Iodine (which I use), each drop equals 6.25 mg. Hence 2 drops = 12.5 mg (re. Peter Starr)

            Can get a little confusing. So 6 drops of 2% = 2mg x 6 drops would = 12 mg.

Or if you’re going with 2% and 1,000 mcg per drop, 12 drops = 12 mg.

Thanks. 5% Lugol’s for some reason isn’t as easy to come by as 2%….

Some states seem to have a real problem with the 5% Lugol’s Iodine. CA is one. Your state could be another state

No problem in Canada so far. Kinda surprising considering Canada is usually worse of for access to medicine than the USA.

Looks like they’re metering it out like they do with those high ABV beers, each additional bottle has to be on it’s own separate invoice: https://www.jcrowsmarketplace.com/1ozlugolssolution5valuepriceincludesshipping.aspx. This operation is a delight to deal with.

All the scare em about Iodine is from a 1948 paper by Drs. Jan Wolff and Israel Lyon Chaikoff from the University of California Berkeley which took over 40 years to debunk.

I have two PDF’s from Mercola and Weston Price that I would post but don’t seem to be viewable presently.

Dr. Guy Abraham was the doc to finally debunk the 1948 paper.

Dr. David Brownstein was a student of Dr. Abraham and could be the best source.

Here’s an interview with Dr. Brownstein. He has also published a book (5th edition 2014) by the same name as the video. In the 5th edition he claims he still takes 75 mg of Lugol’s Iodine per day.

Go to the bottom right of the preview screen (I was in error when I said screen – duh) and the second option from the bottom right is the download option. In this case PDF download.

Now I’m doing this on a desktop computer. I click the download drop down arrow and wait till it’s downloaded. I’m using Chrome so the download shows up in the top right corner. I click it again to display it like a normal pdf. file I can view the complete document, save it etc..

This is such great info that should be added to the nutrition thread. Some folks may not look at the cancer group thinking it doesn’t pertain to them. Thank you for posting this.
