Farmers promise to ‘escalate’ protests against government shutdown orders –Farmers in the Netherlands reduced nitrogen pollution by nearly 70% through a voluntary system. But the government says that is not enough and is demanding that they cut pollution by another 50% by 2030.

By the Dutch government’s own estimates, 11,200 farms out of the roughly 35,000 dedicated to dairy and livestock would have to close under its policies; 17,600 farmers would have to reduce livestock; and total livestock would need to be reduced by one-half to one-third. The Dutch government has demanded that animal farming stop entirely in many places. Of the over $25.7 billion the government has set aside to reduce pollution, just $1 billion is for technological innovation, with most of the rest for buying out farmers. – READ MORE

World Economic Forum Shares Censorship Plan For Online Abuse – The World Economic Forum shared a report last week outlining a plan to mitigate “the dark world of online harm” by using human and artificial intelligence to censor bad actors who produce and promote child abuse, disinformation, and hate speech.

Inbal Goldberger, vice president of Trust and Safety at ActiveFence, a company that detects malicious online content, published an op-ed on the global organization’s website, offering a solution to online abuse. Such solutions would enable a blend of AI and so-called “subject matter experts” to “detect nuanced, novel online abuses at scale, before they reach mainstream platforms.” – READ MORE

Potato Shortage Emerges In Idaho As Prices Surge At Supermarkets – The next food insecurity problem that may impact the way Americans eat could be an emerging potato shortage that began last year when yields were depressed due to a heatwave, according to Boise State Public Radio.

“I’m not sure if you remember last June, but we had some just unbelievably hot temperatures here in Idaho. It did a number on our potato crop,” Jamey Higham, president and CEO of the Idaho Potato Commission, told the Idaho-based media outlet. “And so, our yields were significantly down last year.” – READ MORE

German Officials Warn Of Draconian Energy Regulations, “Extremists” Fueling “Mass Protests And Riots” – As queries for “firewood” have exploded on Google in Germany, and Deutsche Bank predicting that “wood will be used for heating purposes where possible,” German officials are now warning of extreme energy rationing measures, along with the potential for “extremists” to fuel national unrest over the deteriorating situation.

For starters, German Economy Minister and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck – who previously called on residents to cut back on heating, visits to the sauna, and showers – announced on Friday that public buildings across the country won’t be allowed to set heating above 19 degrees Celsius (66.2F) this fall. Exceptions will be made for hospitals and ‘social facilities.’ – READ MORE

States don’t trust green energy, keep coal plants online to prevent blackouts – Coal-fired power plants in several states are delaying planned shutdowns in order to avoid blackouts and energy shortages as the delayed development of renewable energy sources is leaving gaps in states’ power grids amid high energy demand.

At least six coal plants in New Mexico and three other states are temporarily halting their retirement as utility providers say import tariffs and other supply disruptions on solar panels imposed by the U.S. Commerce Department are making it difficult to meet high demand, according to Reuters. Fossil fuels like coal plants and natural gas are preventing blackouts by filling the gaps in the grid that are being created by the push to implement green energy nationwide amid President Joe Biden’s aggressive energy transformation plan. – READ MORE
